About Us

About us

Emergency Services are provided by volunteers and paid staff operating together as a combination department under the leadership of a single senior leadership team. The paid staff works directly for Brazos County ESD No. 1 FD and the volunteers are members of the South Brazos County Fire Department. Currently, ESD 1 staffs 1 station 24/7 with 3 personnel, and our volunteers are an integral part of our response plan regardless of staffing status or time of day. For more information about our stations and apparatus, click here.

The South Brazos County Fire Department is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Members respond to emergencies and provide fire prevention and education services throughout the District and with our mutual aid partners. Meetings are held at Station 1, 14841 S Dowling Road in Wellborn on Tuesday nights beginning at 6:00 pm. Volunteer members must live within SBCFD's service area or within 3 miles of a SBCFD fire station. For more information about joining the SBCFD, click here.

The South Brazos County ESD 1 Fire Department is a TCFP-regulated department, staffed with full-time and part-time staff that respond to emergencies and provide fire prevention and education services throughout the District and with our mutual aid partners. Part-time line staff (firefighter/EMTs, driver-operators, and company officers) work floating 12-hour shifts, as needed and as available. Full-time line staff work an assigned 48/96 shift.
